My interest in photography started early, but it wasn't until I was given a Pentax ME Super and I went up to Durham University to study geology, that my hobby really started to take off. During geology field trips I was soon introduced to some dramatic landscapes, and through that I came to understand the importance of composition. Landscapes can be fickle subjects to capture, but as a geologist I soon learnt to look below the surface, to see the picture within.

Back then, I learnt some invaluable lessons about composition. Today I shoot with a Nikon F80 but I still hold true to my original premise that it's all about the composition. The true essence of photography for me lies in being able to see the composition take shape out there in real life, in real time.

I hope you like my photo's and that they inspire you to see beyond the lens. At the end of the day, the camera is but a tool to capture a moment in time!
