Another of my favourite compositions from the early morning Sunday Market in Athens. The different bags, boxes, and trays of other people's knick-knacks make for some treasured photographs. The early morning light adds the important ingredients of shadows and contrast to complete the composition. (Nikon D70; 2006)
I have long been fascinated by the history etched into human faces. This photograph of the two men on the sea wall was taken in March 2002 in Muscat, just opposite the souk. I realized that both their faces spoke of a history I could only guess at. (Nikon F80s; TMAX 100Pro; f/6.7 at 1/125sec)

I lived in Calgary for a couple of years in the early nineties. Sadly this coincided with my initial discovery of digital photography, which frankly was the starting point of my dark period in photography. With digital came ease of use, which meant I thought less about the composition and fell into the trap of taking snapshots. What a loss, especially when surrounded by such dramatic landscape! Occasionally I did see sense and focus on real photography. Here is one of my (genuine) B&W's from that period. (Pentax ME Super, FP4, Red filter)
Cairo is a gold mine for photographic composition, but the pyramids at Giza are more tricky and prone to the snapshot treatment. I tried to do something different by shooting with b&w film, and with the use of a yellow filter evoke an intense image of the Great Pyramid. (Nikon F80, FP4, Yellow filter)
